Sonas Flutes are a flute quartet made up of 4th year undergraduates at the Royal Northern College of Music. Its members are Jack Belcher, Isabeau Hansen, Matthew Jones and Sinead Walsh. Founded in 2018, the group has enjoyed rehearsing a vast amount of repertoire, from Anton Reicha and Friedrich Kuhlau, to Mike Mower and brand new commissions.
In March 2022, Sonas Flutes presented their first spotlight concert at the RNCM having reached the final of the Fewkes Chamber Music Prize in the same week. They have been tutored by a range of professionals over the last four years, including Laura Jellicoe, Emer McDonough, Rob Buckland, Kevin Gowland, Chris Swann and Petr Praus
Sofia Gallego Kent piano
Sofía Gallego Kent is a 22 year old pianist currently in her fourth year of studying for her Bachelor of Music degree with Paul Janes at the Royal Northern College of Music.
She was born and raised in Ronda, a small town in the south of Spain, and at the age of 8 she started studying the piano with Juan Luis de La Rosa at Conservatory Ramon Corrales. At the age of 14 she moved to Málaga to continue her musical career at Conservatory Manuel Carra. There. she was student of Helios López, Sergio Montero, Paula Coronas and Enrique López until the age of 18. In 2017 she was awarded first prize in the Málaga Chamber Music Competition with saxophonist Adrian Abelaira Campoy.
She has received masterclasses from Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, Jacques Rourvier, Kathy Stott, Jianing Kon, Ilya Maximov, Giuseppe Squitieri, Massimiliano Mainolfi, Margherita Anselmi, Paul Roberts, Charles Owen, and Philippe Cassard. In 2018 and 2019 she took part in music summer courses including Bacewicz in Poland, Albignac in France, Sherbone in England and CEULAJ in Mollina, Spain.
As a chamber musician she has performed with a saxophonist, cellist and tenor in different venues in Málaga including Sala Ateneo, Sala Manuel Carra, CEULAJ and Sala María Cristina.
Currently, she perfoms in a duo with violinist, Kourosh Ahmadi.
